"After a random encounter at the City Baths in the barrios of Brunswick, and realizing a mutual appreciation for the divinity of thunder and lightning, the nine members of PAPA CHANGO commenced a lion hearted odyssey ... "

With their forthcoming release THE MATADOR 12, Papa Chango weave dark threads of psychedelic Ethiopian soul into illuminated tapestries of afro-infused funk.

PRESS RELEASE
Darebin Music Feast Presents: The Red Brigade & Papa Chango.
Thursday 8th of September
The Northcote Social Club
This double bill promises a stage full of majorettes and musicians armed with brass, keys, guitar and percussion galore. The Red Brigade, Australia’s first Girl Brigade, will be taking the stage with Melbourne's own afro-soul group Papa Chango. Perhaps youve heard of Girl Brigading. Its a movement of young women breaking free from the shackles of creative confinement to discover the power of self expression through marching and music. Papa Chango, who base their sound heavily on the influences of the afro-funk and ethio-jazz movements, will join these fierce females to lend big, afro-centric dance floor rhythms. Click here for a taster from Papa Chango's forthcoming LP release, The Matador.
